Single Parents – Confident and Looking for Love

Life can be hard for single parents, especially single mothers, looking for love. On the one hand, they don’t have many opportunities to meet single men – most of the men at the playground, the kindergarden or in the paediatrician’s waiting room are taken – on the other hand, not every single man is interested in a woman with kids. Many a male single runs for the hills as soon as he hears about kids. Obviously, single mothers don’t want to have to lie about their kids; because they’re proud of them and sooner or later they want their man to meet the other most important people in their life. Many single mothers are looking for love online now, because it allows them to be honest upfront and look for men who are happy to date a single mother.

How do single mothers feel about looking for love online? be2 asked and found out that women with kids are pretty confident, happy with their role as mothers and ready to fall in love – but not at any price.

Most of the singles that took part in the be2 survey miss the feeling of security a relationship gives them. That’s probably the reason they’re looking for love. Most of the women are looking for a partner, not for a father figure for their kids. Nevertheless, 49% say it is essential that he gets on with the kids. Maybe some of them are wary due to previous experiences. Almost 20% think that a previous relationship has failed because of the kids – because partner and kids didn’t get on or because the responsibilities of a mother don’t always go hand in hand with the expectations of a partner.

Most of the single mothers don’t care whether or not their partner has kids. Only 9% say “yes, he should have kids of his own”, 7% say “No, I don’t want him to have kids”. Almost all of the women with kids are looking for love in a long-term relationship and are willing to put a lot of effort into a new relationship. Some mothers say their kids will always come first, but 73% think the partner should be equally important.

BUT single mothers are not looking for love at any price. Aside from their duties as mothers, most of them (91%) want to pay attention to their own needs as women, but more than half (51%) also enjoy the freedom and independence single mothers have.
