Love 2007: The Relationships that went Bust

December is the time for reminiscing, so all this week, we’ll be taking a look at what happened in celebrity relationships in the past year. We already summarised the happy weddings of the year and tomorrow we’ll find out about celebrity babies. Relationships in Celebrity-Land are easy come, easy go, so today we take a look at the couples that called it quits in 2007.

  • We never warmed to this couple, partly due to the fact that each one was annoying enough on their own, but Justin Timberlake and Cameron Diaz managed to stay in the headlines early this year with news of the end of their 3-year relationship.
  • On a sadder note, Heath Ledger and Michelle Williams ended their marriage despite the fact that their relationship always seemed so happy and, you know, normal.
  • The biggest rollercoaster couple of the year was probably the one made in tabloid heaven (and appropriately laid to rest there, too). Pete Doherty and Kate Moss got high together, became clean together, attempted marriage but failed, and finally split up. Beauty and the beast, indeed!
  • John Mayer and Jessica Simpson seemed to deserve each other, but alas, it wasn’t meant to last. Lots of on-again-off-again relationship drama followed, but it doesn’t look like we’ll be seeing a new marriage or another series of Newlyweds anytime soon.
  • The breakup of cute couple Kate Hudson and Owen Wilson didn’t create much of a ripple in Hollywood. At least not until Wilson attempted suicide some months later, amid speculation that he still wasn’t over the end of the relationship.
  • Talk about a rebound relationship: Shortly after the end of her rocky marriage with Charlie Sheen, Denise Richards moved on, but not very far. Her new man was her old neighbour and the husband of a close friend. Richie Sambora was about to get divorced from Heather Locklear, and what better way to get over a bad relationship than betraying your friend and your Ex at the same time. Needless to say, the couple didn’t last.
  • We kind of had high hopes for the marriage of Dita Von Teese and Marilyn Manson, if only because they seemed so perfectly suited in their mutual, um, unusualness. However, Mansons attitude to fidelity proved too much for the relationship and Miss Von Teese showed him the door.
  • We had never taken much notice of the marriage of Hulk Hogan, known mostly for his wrestling appearances in shiny spandex until his TV show “Hogan Knows Best” graced our screens. This year, his wife Linda filed for divorce and it looks like Hogan didn’t know best, as he found out about the end of his marriage from a journalist.
  • Olivier Martinez was shown the high road by Kylie Minogue after allegations of his infidelity were made public. The relationship didn’t end on a happy note, but at least he had the decency to keep a low profile after the split.

If you’d like to read about successful relationships instead of failed ones, the be2 relationship stories provide a less star-studded approach, but way more happy endings.
