Is Men’s Fear of Commitment Genetic?

There are plenty of men who show a certain fear of commitment until they are mature enough for a serious relationship (or at least over the fear of missing out on something by not being single). Other men, however, cling on to that fear of commitment for dear life, refusing to “be tied down” by mere women.

A Swedish study indicates that the latter type of fear of commitment could be genetic. In a study of 500 sets of twins, the men with a certain defective gene had a fear of commitment or were unhappily married. These men said that they had trouble bonding emotionally with women.

So, should women give up trying to force men with a “fear of commitment gene” into a serious relationship? Unfortunately, the study doesn’t tell us to what extent the men’s behaviour is determined by the “fear of commitment gene”.
