Do you think online matchmaking services are too expensive? Maybe you’ll think again when you hear the results of an interesting British study about the value of love. The book “You Are Really Rich, You Just Don’t Know It Yet” places monetary value on things that are more important than money – like friendships, health and love.

Especially during the current financial crisis, many people are re-evaluating the value of material things and trying to focus on values that are more rewarding than money. The value assigned to love and other immaterial goods is based on research about what makes people happy. In a new value system, things like love would be appreciated for what they are: priceless ways of enriching your life, without being rich.

According to the book, the value of love is £163,424, while a stable relationship is worth £154,849. Ideally, online matchmaking can help you find both! Then, if you really want to boost your happiness value, you could have children, at a value of £129,448. Surely online matchmaking isn’t too expensive when the return on your investment – the value of love – is so high…

A singles survey by online matchmaking agency be2 tells us a lot about the hopes, dreams and ideas of singles.

be2 has been conducting singles surveys amongst the 12 million members of the online matchmaking site for a while now. The results of these singles surveys are too interesting to keep to ourselves, so we would like to share them on the be2 blog- and they get more and more interesting as we think of better questions each time

The first be2 singles survey was about the basics – Who is looking for a relationship through be2, why are these singles looking for love through an online matchmaking agency and what are they looking for?

Here are the results of the first be2 singles survey:

48 % of be2 members believe that compatible personalities form the basis of a strong, long lasting relationship.

40 % of singles registered with be2 are hoping to find a relationship as soon as possible.

37 % of singles using be2 don’t have the time to search for a relationship without the help of an online matchmaking agency.

37 % of be2’s singles find it hard to approach other singles „offline“.

Almost 9.000 be2 members participated in the first be2 singles survey. We look forward to presenting more results as they come in.

Matchmaking in Google search results from 2001. The search for "Partnervermittlung" delivered few, weird, results.

What results did a search for matchmaking yield in a search engine in 2001? Obviously, not that many. Online matchmaking wasn’t even a twinkle in online startups’ eyes and there were less websites overall. A search for matchmaking in Google only resulted in 116,000 search results in 2001. The top 10 results are either sites that no longer exist or not quite online matchmaking as we know it today.

How do we know? Google has built itself a time machine to celebrate its 10th birthday and set up a search engine based on the 2001 index, which you can use to google yourself, Paris Hilton or, should you wish to do so, matchmaking. We didn’t even exist back then , Paris Hilton was a Hotel in the capital of France ) and online matchmaking was practically unheard of.

be2 matchmaking was founded in 2004, which is why it doesn’t show up in 2001 search results.
